This 1937 Oldsmobile was featured in the movie “A Christmas Story”. It was the old man’s (starring Darin McGavin) car. The movie was filmed between January and March 1983. The car was purchased on May 20th 1983 by a Cookstown Ontario resident.
The car was found by John Heary of Brampton and I believe in a stored in a barn. The Cookstown owner was going to restore it but that never happened, so John purchased the car Nov 23 1992 to make it a street rod. He was told at the time that this was the Christmas Story car but at that time John had not heard of the movie and did not care about the history of the car. He just wanted to build a street rod. The car was modified into the street rod but John never forgot that this was a previous movie car.
I had known John for at least 20 years and he told me about the car back then. He has passed away last August and I was able to purchase the car in October 2016.
If you search YouTube for mordoor53 and A Christmas Story you will see the car. This movie was mostly filmed in Canada, 7 weeks in Toronto area and two weeks in Clevland Ohio.
